about:

Echoing the realm of SELENE, the MINI MOONS show us a series of circular table lamps in which fragments of the moon can be discovered. The enlightened, engraved surface offers you a magical moment with its atmospheric light.

In the context of Japanese garden philosophy we can see *'Shakkei' 借景 is here at place. 'Borrowing' the element that is naturally present in our surrounding; the moon, and placing it at the very root of the design.

Following along the string of the lamp we find another natural element that is somewhat looking like lava or an outer space rock, the dimm module. Channeling the connection with outer space, we imagine this to be an asteroid. Made from cast aluminium the shape resembles the transition from the liquid state to the solid, as if frozen in time.

Shakkei:
借景

A japanese garden design concept by which local, even distant surroundings are drawn into the garden space as 'borrowed scenery'. For example a forest, a mountain or the moon's reflection in a pond become key elements to set the tone of the garden space and to harmonize the design to it's surrounding. The opposite of shakkei is dankei, a garden in which external surroundings are completely blocked out.
